I need some advice;I'm going to a Catholic church and I don't wanna look like I dont know what i'm doing so I need to know what catholics do in there churches you know the steps
I really need some advice on what your suppose to do and when to do it,thank you so muchHow to be a Catholic(Advice needed please)!!!!!!?
First of all, don't worry too much. People don't pay very much attention to others, and they won't be judging you. No one will know whether or not you're Catholic.
The main thing to fit in is to stand, sit, and kneel when other people do. When people kneel, they are often praying. If you don't feel comfortable kneeling, you may stay seated.
People will sing, recite prayers, and have responses memorized for various points in the Mass. You can be silent or pretend to mouth along the words if you want. Many people in the Church will be doing the same thing, probably. :) People who go to Mass weekly or daily should know the responses, but others may not. Don't stress too much.
Sometimes, people will cross themselves, bow briefly, and make other actions. Most people will also kneel briefly on their right knee (as a man would when proposing marriage) when entering their pew and when leaving it at the end of Mass, which is called genuflecting. It's OK not to do these things. You're not Catholic, and you're not expected to participate in everything. Remember, no one will be watching you to see whether you do it right.
At one point, the priest will invite people to give each other peace. You will briefly shake hands with those around you, saying ';Peace'; or ';Peace be with you'; (or ';And also with you';). You'll be fine if you just say ';Peace.';
When everyone starts lining up for Communion, stay seated. If you feel like praying, you can kneel. It's perfectly fine to stay seated during Communion, and it's quite common.
If you are interested in joining the Catholic Church, you should tell the priest after mass. You can address him as ';Father.'; He should be really nice and welcoming no matter what.
For more information, this is a pretty good outline of a typical Catholic Mass: http://catholic-resources.org/ChurchDocs鈥?/a>How to be a Catholic(Advice needed please)!!!!!!?
First off, im happy that you have found God and contrary to what many people believe about the Catholic Church, its very nice, welcoming and fun atmosphere to be around. First if you are not Catholic and are going to see what it is like, just observe, you can follow gestures and pray but don't go up for communion. You would like to become Catholic that look into going to some classes that the church will put on and will help you become. Lastly is dont be afraid to ask questions because most people will be very happy to help.
The best advice I can give you is to join RICA which are classes for catholic adults. This will give you the knowledge you need, not to just participate in the Mass but also understand what and why you are doing it. Find a practicing Catholic to help you get started. Good luck on your journey. I will pray for you.
My advice for you would be, don't go! They teach false doctrine of works. Do you want to have to earn your way into heaven or are you willing to accept the free gift from Jesus through His grace? God wouldn't make you earn it. He loves you and accepts you right where you are!
Holy Water, dip your fingers in it make the sign of the cross on your forehead, then go sit down in the pews
Then,stand up/sing,knell down,stand up/sing,sit down,knell down,stand up/sing,kneel down,stand up/sing.
PHEW! what a work out.
My best advise is to do the exact opposite of what Rene O tells you to do.
Just check your brain, look around, and follow the rest of the zombies. You'll do fine.
look like a hippie
1) Walk in, if you want dip your finger in holy water and make the sign of the cross (touch your forehead, left shoulder, and then right shoulder with the finger).
2) Sit down.
3) Follow everyone else in the church when they stand, sit, and kneel.
4) For communion where they go up to the front and receive the body of Christ (eat the wafers) do not go up. You can only eat it if you've had your first holy communion.
5) Bring anti-bacterial wipes because there is a part where you offer a sign of peace and shake hands, (some churches allow you to make a peace sign instead)
So that's it.
