Catholic or any Christian advice on school dances?

Over the past couple of summer months I have grown very strongly in my faith and aim to live this school year in purity, unlike previous years, where I was what one might call ';abstinent'; but was always subconsciously seeking attention (often the wrong kind) from guys. I also had no problem listening and dancing to music that was completely disrespectful to women or, in general, just immoral and impure. This year I will be a junior in high school, and with that comes traditions like prom and homecoming. I love to dance and really don't want to miss out on those life experiences, but at the same time, I would feel awful dancing to music that talks about drugs and ripping girls clothes off right in the middle of people doing just that. Is there any way to solve this problem without skipping out on these high school memories?Catholic or any Christian advice on school dances?
Ask God, y'know, pray about it. If you want, you could talk to the dance coordinators about the music they play being offensive to you and others and suggest different music. Some GREAT clean dance music is the band Family Force 5. Take a stand for your faith and don't be afraid, talk to a dance coordinator about music changes or suggestions. You don't have to dance to those vulgar songs, you could leave when/if they started playing those songs or, like I said, suggest different music. Also, other bands are Relient K, Capital Lights, etc. they along with Family Force 5 are either Christians in a band or are Christian or Christian-influenced (and clean) bands.

If you'll take the time to listen through these songs, I'm sure you'll find that kids at your dance wouldn't mind listening to and dancing to those songs. They're still fun, have fun beats that they're probably used to listening to, just w/o the vulgar lyrics or cussing. You don't have to choose the songs that are more ';religious'; to dance to, the bands above make both Christian and secular/mainstream music. you also could find something else to substitue for highschool memories and not go to the dance. Good luck and God bless.Catholic or any Christian advice on school dances?
Just avoid dancing to those songs, if your friends ask you why you aren't dancing just tell them that you want to rest or take break for a couple minutes. Sadly, a lot of music out there is totally ridiculous and derogatory. You shouldn't miss out on those fun things. If the excuses above don't work try to find some one who's not dancing to talk to.
There are a lot of awesome christian bands. I love rock music and I listen to thousand foot krutch. And some non rock bands I love are Starfield and Hillsong United.

To still go to dances don't dance in a nasty way (LOL) and don't dance to bad songs and make sure you are thinking of how God would want you to act.

BTW you shouldn't be seeking attention from guys in that kind of way and only date christian guys and make sure you stay abstinent.
Ask them to change the music because you find it offensive. Maybe you can find substitutes for your high school memories. Not really sure what kind of an answer to give you, but hooray for you for standing up and taking a stance for what you believe in!
sometimes we have to make a stand for are faith!! and it may mean giving up those sinful pleasures. because sin is very fun but it last only for a ';season'; and then you face burning in hell forever!! so i would encourage you to just not go to those things!! and take a stand for your faith!!
Dancing is fine, I absolutely love dancing to George Michael. As long as dancing does not provoke immoral actions or thoughts from either party it should be fine.
Good luck getting a guy.

Jeez, it's just music and it's just dancing. It'd be hilarious if a guy freaked you on the dance floor
You can either ignore or it or try to change it.
Dont do it.
if you even have to ask, you probably shouldn't go.
just do what feels right..

u rly think a flying dude in the sky is gonna watch you??

he probably jerks off everyday.. i mean he watches everyone, he must get horny
You don't have to miss out on those life experiences. You can still go to your proms and homecoming and all that. It's just that, whenever the ';opportunity'; arises for you to do something illicit, you need to have the courage to abstain - even if that means catching grief from some of your friends.

I expect that's probably going to happen because, based on what you said about wishing to be pure out of 'love for and from God', spiritually speaking you're light-years ahead of the average person in your age group.

For example, let's say you're at a dance. by all means - dance! When a song with a socially irredeemable message begins playing, stay off the dance floor until a 'better' song starts.

Any junior HS or HS event, especially when the entire class is involved, is going to have a number of kids doing illicit things - but there will also be plenty of people there being good.
