I am desperately looking for someone who can help me plan a catholic destination wedding. Im afraid it will be very difficult to find a church in another state willing to marry out-of-towners. But I know it has been done before. I know its possible. I just need some help and guidance.
Are there any wedding planners out there who have helped with this sort of wedding?
Any advice is greatly appreciatedI need advice on catholic destination wedding?
Most Catholic churches will not marry couples who are not members or are connected in some way to the church (parents, grandparents are members). I'm not saying it can't be done, but it will be difficult. Also, most Catholic priests will not perform an outdoor ceremony.
Your best bet is to talk to the priest at your current church and see if they have connections elsewhere. Or, they may be able to help you get a dispensation to have your wedding elsewhere.
You can also always get married at your destination wedding and have a convalidation ceremony at your church (which is really just like a wedding) when you come back.
You can also try getting married in Mexico. A Catholic wedding in Mexico can be easy to arrange and is recognized as an official Catholic wedding when all the official documentation and requirements have been fulfilled. Catholics can be married in local Mexican parish churches. Permission from your parish priest to marry outside of your parish is required and this permission must be approved by your parish's diocese.
the marriage couple must complete the Pre-Cana classes, the required pre-marriage courses, and the Pre-Cana certificate is required prior to the wedding. All official documents required for a Catholic wedding must be received 30 days prior to your ceremony. Rarely are their exceptions to this 30 day rule.
Also, if you can find a parish in a popular tourist destination, they may be more willing to accomodate your wedding without having to belong to the church.I need advice on catholic destination wedding?
I guess it depends where you are going. Talk with your parish priest - they do have quite a network, you know, and can help you deal with the paperwork - like you have taken the pre-marital counselling, that you are both Catholic, etc.
Masstimes.org will give you the address and phone numbers of Catholic Churches practically anywhere.
Call the Churches in the area you want to get married in, maybe they will marry you, if you go though Pre-Cana or Engaged Encounter in your home Parish.
Just remember to get married ';in the Catholic Church'; the wedding must be held in a Church building. So if you are looking for a beach wedding, it probably won't happen.
Look up local churches in the area you want to get married. Try 411.com. THen you can call and ask about requirements.
My local Church gets this type of request all the time. (It's a gorgeous Church %26amp; some people are just in it for the pictures!) Anyway, check with the parish Priest first. Wedding dates go quickly and most Churches prefer to give dates to parishoners first.
Maybe your parish Priest would know of some locations you could use. It would be extra-helpful if he was friends with any parish Priests in other locations.
Best of luck!
Why don't you explain to your priest your plans and ask him if he can help contact someone for you.
I don't know much about the destination part but I would say talk with your priest early. I know they have paper work to do and have to get all of your ';Catholic Papers'; like for first communion and things like that. He may have to get that and then send it to the priest that will marry you. That could take some time so start now. He may also be able to help you locate a church and priest. And then give the other priest a recommendation for you two to get married. Good luck!
